Here are a list of the daytrips we did from Dursley:
1.Berkley Castle and Butterfly Farm -The tour guide was excellent, very informative.
Would highly recommend. Loved the butterflies. One landed on Kendra!
2. Stroud – an okay place to walk and browse through the shops
3.Mall in Bristol – Great especially on rainy days. A teenagers’ paradise! Busy on Sundays.
4.Bath – Great, loved it. A full day. We learned a lot! The Baths are awesome. The costume museum was okay but audiophones went into too much detail.
5.Stonehenge – Excellent! Wouldn’t miss it. Worth the drive. Kids thought the audiophones made it too long but Larry and I enjoyed it.
6.Kennett Long Barrow – saw on the same day as Stonehenge. A great mystery!
7.Gloucester – We liked this town for shopping and walking. The cathedral is fabulous and the Bell Tower tour is worth the climb. Don’t miss the crypt! Interesting to think of how they will film the Harry Potter movie there.
8.Beatrix Potter Museum – nothing much there. Skip it and take a photo outside.
9.Cirenester – weekend flea market was fun. Nice cathedral. Loved the little antique shops.
10.Bristol Zoo - A full day. Great for the whole family. Walked through the large bat display. Scary! We’d never seen displays like the tarantulas in the toilets and rats in the refrigerator before!
11.Twesbury Abbey – another beautiful cathedral!
12.Cheddar – saw the caves, museum, climbed Jacob’s Ladder. All were excellent. A full day but worth the drive. Loved the Cheddar ice cream!
13.Silbury – Man made hill. Wow! How long would it take to build?
14.Wales – fun, scenic drive. Liked the view from the bridge.
15.Winchcombe – great gargoyles. Nothing much else.
16.Cirencester – Mosaic museum is great and explains the history well.
17.Stratford – Shakespeare’s birthplace and 3 homes. A busy tourist spot. Well worth the visit. Lots of souvenirs. Some lineups so we had to move slowly through the exhibits.
18.Gloucester Docks – liked the ride on the canal boat and some interesting stuff in the museum. Some interactive displays that the kids enjoyed.
19.Windsor Castle – Fabulous. A long drive but definitely worth it. Interesting to find out about the restoration after the fire. We decided that the Royal family must be fairly comfortable there.
20.Avebury – liked it, especially nice walking around the circle of stones. Kids touched (and climbed on the rocks for photos!) every stone.
21.Coaley Lookout – liked the view. It’s definitely a Cotswolds postcard!
Other things we did in Dursley:
Larry and I went to early morning swim at the Dursley Pool. A nice routine and you can buy 10 tickets at a time.
The Dursley Bakery was a favourite spot for getting jam donuts and pasties
Café (can’t recall the name) near the bakery made great capacchinos for Bonnie’s morning coffee. The owner was very friendly.
Other shops were fun to poke around in.
We often went for an evening walk through town and up past the high school and cemetery.
Mostly bought groceries at the Co-op. Also took our recycling there.
Loved cooking on the Thomas stove/oven.
Larry and I got hooked on some of the BBC programs especially the Antique Auction Game and the nature documentaries.
We watched most of the Thomas videos in the evenings. We saw everything from Bambi to the English Patient. A terrific collection!
The house was very comfortable and we had a fabulous trip that we will remember forever.
Thanks and best wishes to future visitors to Mulberry House
